PACKING LIST

What You Should Bring?

As you almost certainly already know, the weather in Alaska is unpredictable. No matter what time of year you come, the weather can be unseasonably hot, cold, wet, or dry! It’s always best to be prepared for the unexpected. Dressing in layers is imperative for
comfort but you should be mindful of overpacking. With that in mind, here are some suggestions below. Please call, text, or email with questions about your trip.

Hunting Clothing

  • Heavy Jacket

  • Synthetic Pullover or Wool Sweater

  • Warm Shirts

  • Top and bottom Base layers of quality Synthetic material 

  • High-quality Raingear 

  • Socks and Underwear

  • Synthetic hunting pants

  • Warm beanie type Hat

  • Gloves

  • Casual wear for evenings at the lodge

  • Footwear: It is nice to have waterproof knee-high boots or hip waders for getting on and off the boat. Depending on the ocean conditions it may be impossible to avoid walking in the water for a few steps.  Many hunters are more comfortable in ankle-high hiking boots. If that is your preference, you can attempt to jump onto the beach or you can borrow our hip boots to exit the boat and then switch footwear.

  • Duck hunters should bring waders.

  • Camp shoes – Comfortable footwear that is easily slipped on and taken off

Miscellaneous Hunting Items 

  • Binoculars and Rangefinder

  • Guns and ammo

  • Knife for gutting, quartering and caping.

  • Strong and comfortable hunting pack big enough to haul a deer.

  • game bags

  • toiletries

  • Waterproof Matches or Lighter

  • headlamp with extra batteries

  • Camera with charger 

  • Reading materials

  • Garbage Bags for dirty clothes, boots, etc.

  • Gun oil and rag in a Ziplock bag

  • Soft floating Gun Case – to protect your gun from salt spray while traveling by boat to the hunting area.

  • Leatherman 

  • Hand Warmers

  • Baby Wipes for cleaning your hands after gutting deer

  • A satellite communication device such as Satellite phone, In-Reach, or Zoleo.  

  • Hunting License, big game tags (Alaska Department of Fish & Game), and Afognak Native land use permit (https://www.afognak.com/lands/land-use-permit/)

  • alcoholic beverages (can be purchased in Kodiak on your way to the lodge)

  • Medium weight jacket

  • Synthetic pullover or hooded sweatshirt

  • Top and bottom light synthetic base layer 

  • High-quality Raingear 

  • Shirts of varying weights that can likely be worn several times

  • Several pairs of pants

  • One pair of socks and underwear for every day plus a couple of spares

  • Lightweight gloves

  • Waterproof day pack

  • It is nice to have waterproof knee-high boots or hip waders for getting on and off the boat. Depending on the ocean conditions it may be impossible to avoid walking in the water for a few steps

  • Camp shoes – Comfortable footwear that is easily slipped on and taken off

  • Baseball cap, visor, or similar

Miscellaneous Fishing Items 

  • Fishing license (and king salmon stamp if targeted) obtained at https://www.adfg.alaska.gov/Store/

  • Polarized sunglasses

  • Alcoholic beverages (can be purchased in Kodiak on your way to the lodge or shipped to us in advance)

  • Toiletries

  • Camera with Memory cards and charger

  • A couple of garbage bags for dirty clothes and boots for the trip home

  • Ziplock bags are handy to keep camera /video clean and dry as well as having other misc. uses

Fishing Clothing

If you forget something, Big Ray’s and Wal-Mart should have everything needed prior to flying out to CCL.
